Midtown Crossing and Omaha Farmers Market are channeling a shared enthusiasm for the neighborhood’s Night Market into an exciting, new partnership. The series of eclectic, night-time pop-up festivals debuted in the Midtown Crossing last spring. Now, after a successful first year, the common goal is an elevated and expanded community event.
“The most exciting aspect of the Night Market has been activating 31st Avenue and providing a relaxed, come-and-go environment for families and friends on a Friday night. Omaha Farmers Market shares our passion for building on that momentum and accentuating what makes the Night Market so special: music, markets, food and activity all happening in harmony,” said Molly Skold, Midtown Crossing’s vice president of marketing and communications.
Omaha Farmers Market, launched in 1994 and managed by Omaha institution Vic Gutman & Associates (VGA), is eager to incorporate the Night Market into its family of events, which includes the Saturday Omaha Farmers Market in the Old Market, the Sunday Omaha Farmers Market at Aksarben Village and the Physicians Mutual & WOWT Holiday Market.
Vic Gutman, Executive Director of the Omaha Farmers Market, shared his excitement for the project, “Partnering with Midtown Crossing for the second year of the Night Market is a great fit for the Omaha Farmers Market family. It will give us a unique opportunity to offer a monthly market that is focused on local artisans while mixing in the food and fun of Midtown Crossing’s retail and restaurant tenants.”
The first year of the Night Market, which included four Friday evening dates, drew approx. 30 vendors and approx. 5,000 guests at each event. In addition to shopping, the fun included live music, outdoor games, themed food offerings and moonlight yoga.
The Night Market will grow to five dates in 2018 – one Friday evening each in May, June, July, August and September in Turner Park.
Free, open to the public and dog-friendly, the Night Market strengthens Midtown Crossing’s roster of signature events, which includes Jazz on the Green, Monday Night at the Movies, Yoga Rocks the Park and the Zydeco Festival.
In addition to Omaha Farmers Market, VGA’s portfolio of events includes the Holiday Lights Festival and Omaha Summer Arts Festival. The company will celebrate its 40th year in the community event management and marketing arena in 2018.
