Stunning and sentimental, the Horses of Honor® Omaha statues are on display at CenturyLink Center Omaha during the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping & FEI World Cup™ Dressage Finals Omaha 2017.
The eight life-sized statues of mounted patrol unit horses – each thoughtfully designed by an Omaha-area artist – pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the Omaha Police Department. Positioned throughout Turner Park over the past 10 months, they will now touch visitors from around the country and the world here to see the best horses and riders in two Olympic disciplines.
The Horses of Honor® Omaha statues are stationed inside the convention center space and near the skywalk to Hilton Omaha.
The FEI World Cup™ Finals Omaha 2017 run through April 2. It is the first-time Omaha has hosted a World Cup and an international professional championship. Riders are expected to represent at least 25 different countries. As many as 60,000 visitors are expected.
After the event, the horses, which debuted in Turner Park on May 20, 2016, will begin to make their journeys to their permanent homes. Each has been privately auctioned with net proceeds benefitting the Omaha Police Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization working to ensure Omaha officers have the training and equipment they need to prevent crime, save lives and make Omaha a safer city.
“Horses of Honor® Omaha has been such an impactful project. We’re particularly grateful that guests from around the world will have a chance to see the horses and that proceeds from their auctions will help keep our city and future guests safe for years and years to come,” said N.P. “Sandy” Dodge, Jr., Interim President of the Omaha Police Foundation.
